Character Quote from Under the Western Sky
“I’m not surprised you saw Curry,” he said quietly, tossing the stick once more. “But you can’t keep talking to him. Someone will notice. And you’re right, he doesn’t blend.”
“I figured you did that on purpose so I’d know I wasn’t alone,” Bobby commented, taking a sip of his Dr. Pepper. “But you didn’t figure I’d notice the lady with the baby carriage or the jogger. Maybe you also thought that the mailman was a good cover, but we know all those guys around here.”
“How did you spot them?”
“Small town,” Bobby shrugged. “I see things. Did I forget anyone? Oh, the electrical repair guy on the ladder.”
Toby laughed. “I guess my people need to learn how to blend into a small town.”
“Electrician in dress shoes? Come on, Toby. Where did you recruit these guys from? Gentlemen’s Quarterly? We aren’t fashion plates around here. The only half real one was the jogger. At least he had the right shoes. But not many people jog in the middle of the afternoon.”

I’m addicted to it. War, battle—the thrill of being in mortal combat and constant danger. Not knowing whether I’ll still be breathing one moment to the next is a rush I can’t explain.
But I hate that I love it. It’s like a sickness that sank its hooks into my psyche and refuses to let go. I’m living with nightmares and the strange reality of civilian life, while I crave my next mission.
Until I meet a sassy redhead with sharp wit and scalding green eyes. She stirs the same adrenaline rush I experienced while dropping from the sky into enemy territory.
Charlotte is everything that’s right in this wretched world. There’s a kindness in her, but I’m afraid the darkness lurking within me will destroy it. I’m not the kind of man she deserves. She’s too good for me.
I shouldn’t want her the way I do, and if I were a good man, I would walk away
Problem is…I’m not.
